Address at AIT: Joint efforts necessary for a secure and prosperous future of humanity: Prime Minister

Bangkok. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while addressing a program organized at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand today, said that there is a need for joint efforts for a safe and prosperous future of mankind. Prime Minister Oli, who is in Bangkok on an official visit to Thailand and participating in the 6th Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), said that the Nepal government has worked on its behalf for human happiness, prosperity, security and self-respect.

He explained the national aspiration of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ and expressed the view that there is nothing greater than happiness along with human desires. He also called on the international community to make joint efforts at national, regional and global levels to address common global issues including climate change. In the program, attended by Nepali teachers and students, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the development of modern agriculture and the production of human resources of the 21st century, expressing confidence that the human resources produced by AIT will contribute to the development of Nepal’s water resources and other development sectors.

Prime Minister Oli also announced that he would deposit one hundred thousand US dollars in the fund established by AIT in Nepal for research, study and scholarship. Nepali Ambassador to Thailand Dhan Bahadur Wali informed that Nepal is in fourth place in terms of the number of foreign students studying in the institution and cooperation with AIT is a priority for them. Currently, 181 Nepali students are studying at AIT, while 1,795 Nepali students have completed their studies so far. Currently, there are seven Nepali faculty members, including three members, on the ‘Board of Trustees’ of this institution.

Prime Minister Oli, First Lady Radhika Shakya and the team were welcomed by the ‘President’ of the institution, Prof. Pai Chi Lee. Prime Minister Oli is on his first visit to Thailand at the friendly invitation of Thai Prime Minister Pe Thong Than Shinawatra. Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to hold ‘sideline’ meetings with the heads of state and government of the member countries participating in the BIMSTEC summit today. Prime Minister Oli’s visiting delegation includes First Lady Shakya, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic/Development Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal Ek Narayan Aryal, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai, among others.
