Jhapa. Agricultural materials company Birtamod has sold 15,299 metric tons of chemical fertilizers to farmers in the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2081/82. The company’s branch chief Deepak Kumar Rajbanshi said that due to the large amount of arable land in Jhapa and the cultivation of different types of crops in the same season, the consumption of chemical fertilizers in the district is high.
According to him, the company had sent 17,500 metric tons of chemical fertilizers to Jhapa for the current fiscal year. Now the branch has 2,210 metric tons of fertilizers in stock. The company has stated that it has sold 9,800 metric tons of urea, 5,14 metric tons of DAP and 4,085 metric tons of potash fertilizers to farmers in the district by the end of Falgun. The district had received 11,000 metric tons of urea, 6,000 metric tons of DAP and 500 metric tons of potash fertilizer for the current fiscal year.
Branch Chief Rajbanshi said that there may be a shortage of chemical fertilizers from April due to increasing demand from farmers and low stock in the branch. ‘We do not have enough chemical fertilizers to meet the demand,’ said Chief Rajbanshi, ‘Even the fertilizer in stock is almost finished, it can last until April.’ He informed that additional chemical fertilizers will arrive only in April.
He said that sales are exceeding the target in the office in the current fiscal year. He informed that even if four thousand metric tons of fertilizer is received now, it will not be enough. He said that the demand for urea fertilizer has increased sharply compared to other fertilizers in the district. Currently, farmers in Jhapa are secretly bringing fertilizer from the border markets of neighboring India to apply to their paddy, corn, and tea crops. The fertilizer is being distributed through designated cooperatives in all 15 municipalities of the district by the Agricultural Materials Company Limited.
