Myagdi. Two years after the deadline, the construction work of Ravan Park in Beni Municipality-5 has gained momentum. The construction work of Ravan Park, which was signed by Dharma S. Kashyap JV in Falgun 2077 BS for Rs. 17.6 million with a target of completing it in two years, has gained momentum in the last two months.
##Under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation’s Tourism Infrastructure and Tourism Product Development Partnership Program, the construction of the park with the statue of Ravana was started with the ministry sharing 70 percent of the cost and Beni Municipality sharing 30 percent.
##
##The construction of the project, which was not able to manage the budget in the fiscal years 2079/80 and 2080/81, was stopped for 44 months after the construction businessmen of the project tried to walk away.
##
##After a long effort, the construction of the Ravana Park, which had been stalled since Ashar 2078, has been brought back on track, said Ward Chairman Govinda Baniya of Beni Municipality-5. “The construction of the fence, entrance, and footpath in the park is almost complete. They have started digging the foundation for the place where the Ravana statue will be placed,” he said.
##
## “Although it seems that the park will be built, there is confusion about placing the Ravana statue until the case filed in the Supreme Court is resolved.” The contractor has prepared a six-meter-tall statue of Ravana to be placed in the park at a cost of Rs 1.8 million. In a writ petition filed in the Supreme Court last Ashar, Kedarnath Das had given an interim order not to place the statue of Ravana.
Ward Chairman Baniya said that the delay in the court’s decision in the case filed with the argument that the statue of Ravana should not be placed in the place where the sages performed penance has caused confusion. According to Jagdish Subedi, priest of the Pulashram temple located in the back, the place where Pulah, a character from the Hindu scripture Ramayana, and the penance of the sage Pulatya, where Ravana was born and his wife were buried, is still safe.
##
## A park is being built on four ropanis of the Pulah Ashram area, which is spread over an area of about 14 ropanis. Representatives of the contractor company have said that the construction of infrastructure including the garden, resting place, enclosure and land conservation, including the statue of Ravana, has been completed by preserving the Rishi Muni Temple, Havan Kund, and the place where Ravana’s navel is said to be buried in the ashram.
##
## The wall for the enclosure has been constructed. Locals hope that the construction of the park will promote tourism. From the Ravana Park construction site, which is located at an altitude of two thousand meters above sea level, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna mountain ranges, sunrise, as well as most of the geography of the district, including Beni, located at the confluence of the Myagdi and Kaligandaki rivers.
There is a mythological belief that sages Pulah, Kapil, and Jadbharat attained enlightenment here by performing penance. The fifth chapter of the Ramayana mentions that Ravana was born in the past. The Ramayana explains that sages Pulah, Pulatsya, and Bharata performed penance in the past.
##In 2066 BS, former president of the Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Pramod Kumar Shrestha, and others had conceived a plan to build a park in Beni targeting religious tourists. Despite budget allocation since 2074 BS, the plan for the Ramayana Park could not be implemented due to space disputes and lack of resources.
