Kathmandu. Businessmen should justify the increase in the price of cement and mortar: Director General Dahal Kumar Prasad Dahal, Director General of the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection, has said that unlabeled products are being sold and distributed openly in the market.
He said this at a press conference organized at the department’s office in Babarmahal on Wednesday. He said that during the monitoring, it was found that unlabeled products were being sold and distributed in the market in violation of the Consumer Protection Act. He said that discussions were held with producers and businessmen after consumers complained about the increase in the price of cement and mortar. He said that he has instructed producers and businessmen to justify the increase in the price of the products.
He said that producers and businessmen have violated the law by violating the legal provision that the maximum retail price and quality of the products should be clearly written on the products. He said that some dealers who sell cement and rods without a level have been banned from selling and distributing. Director General Dahal urged not to sell and distribute any products without a level that goes against the spirit and intent of the law. He warned of legal action if products without a level are found in the market.
Director General Dahal said that producers and entrepreneurs should justify the reason for increasing the price of goods. He said that if producers and entrepreneurs are found to have increased prices unfairly for more profit, action will be taken according to the law.
