Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has said that the government is committed to overcoming the multidimensional challenges of rapid urbanization, natural environmental degradation and socio-economic inequality. Addressing the Regional Roundtable Conference on Urban Governance and Development organized in Lalitpur on Wednesday, Minister Singh said this.
He informed that the government is committed to building an inclusive urban governance structure by focusing on life and livelihood. He also said that not only Nepal but also Asian countries are facing multidimensional challenges of rapid urbanization, natural environmental degradation and socio-economic inequality.
He informed that attention should be paid to building cities that create opportunities for access to a quality economy, safe housing, a clean environment and social mobility. He stated that natural resources are being destroyed due to urbanization, demographic change, climate change, and natural disasters that have occurred in various periods, and said that an integrated urban development program is necessary for this.
He expressed Minister Singh’s belief that the conference will lay the foundation for making urbanization resilient and inclusive not only in Nepal but also in the Asian region.
