Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has said that the plans will be selected in the coming fiscal year on the basis of priorities. Speaking at the meeting of the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee under the National Assembly on Wednesday, he said this.
He said that the plans will be selected in a practical manner keeping in mind the economy of Nepal. He said that the plans will be selected in a way that will benefit the most people, adding that a lot of money will be required to complete the plans and that the work will be somewhat slow as the resources and means available are being worked on.
He said, ‘Due to the current state of Nepal’s economy, we should also be a little practical. While selecting the plans on the basis of priorities and in a way that will benefit the most people, it would be better to keep the plans in the budget this time. A lot of money will be required to complete the plans. The work slows down a bit when working according to the available resources and means.’
He said that he was working to end the practice of dumping sewage directly into the river and that the government was putting more emphasis on making the river clean. Speaking at the committee meeting, CPN (Maoist Center) MP Nar Bahadur Bista suggested not to fully build 10 cities under the plan to build new cities and not to advance the concept of other cities.
He said that clarity in the scope of work of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Urban Development was necessary. Stating that Janata Awas Province has also implemented it, he said that it should be a national pride project and that arrangements should be made to provide employment and build houses to the underprivileged class of Tarai/Madhes by allocating a budget.
Speaking in the committee meeting, CPN-UML MP Sumitra BC said that the new parliament building has been monitored many times but has not been completed. Since the contract expires on Chaitra 18 and it has not been completed yet, what should be done or should the time be extended? She asked. She stressed that the work on the new parliament building should be completed quickly.
In the meeting, other members of the committee emphasized the need to build underground water conservation and storage structures. They emphasized that physical structures should be built using resources available in Nepal. They drew the government’s attention to selecting projects including Smart City based on accessibility.
