Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that the hero of bright Nepal is not the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising. Responding to questions raised by lawmakers in the National Assembly meeting on Wednesday, Minister Khadka asserted that it was not Ghising who ended load shedding in Nepal, but India and the private sector.

Minister Khadka has accused Executive Director Ghising of spreading rumors that load shedding has ended by cutting the lines of industries and providing electricity to homes. He mentioned that the government-funded authority is still producing only 700 megawatts of electricity.

He said that Nepal is still supplying electricity by importing 825 megawatts of electricity, and said, ‘The Electricity Authority, which has 100 percent government investment, has produced only 700 megawatts. The private sector has produced 2,800 megawatts of electricity. Even today, electricity supply has not been able to be provided. There was load shedding yesterday, and there is still today. Yesterday, electricity was cut to industries and given to homes, and it is still the same today. Even now, 825 megawatts of electricity is being imported from India.’

‘We have enough 1,000 megawatts of electricity. Now, there is a situation where load shedding occurs even at home in the evening. Because of that, it has been felt that load shedding has been eliminated due to the private sector and electricity imported from India. Therefore, he is not the hero of light. Instead, let’s give this thanks to India, let’s give it to the private sector. “We want to express our gratitude to those who have fulfilled our needs,” he said.

Minister Khadka said that although the Authority was said to be profitable, the report of the Office of the Auditor General showed a loss of more than 200 billion rupees, stating that there was no truth in the claim that the Authority was profitable.
