Damauli. Hira Bahadur Thapa of Paimi, Bhimad Municipality-9, has been involved in vegetable farming for 29 years. Thapa, who started vegetable farming from Thankot in 2052 BS, has recently returned to his own village and expanded his farming.
Says that in the past, he was forced to take land rent while farming elsewhere, and Thapa informed that he is now farming on his own seven ropanis of land. He said that he came here after the village land became barren and continued vegetable farming.
Thapa said, ‘When farming on rent from someone else’s land elsewhere, the income was only enough to cover his living expenses. I have returned to the village and am farming on my own land, which is barren. Now I am satisfied as I am also saving money along with the income.’ He said that he initially started vegetable farming by renting land in Thankot and returned to the village after there was no tomato production there.
He said, ‘There was no tomato production in Kharenitar. Since it was difficult to meet the cost of paying the land rent, I tested and researched the soil. After finding that the soil there was not suitable, I returned to the village in 2079 BS.’ Thapa informed that he is currently earning more than 700,000 rupees annually.
He said that he is not having a market problem for the sale of the produced vegetables and that he is using a 40,000-liter pond due to lack of irrigation. Thapa said that he has expanded vegetable farming, which started with two tunnels, and has now built 11 tunnels. Bodhi, beans, cucumbers, okra, pumpkins, gourds, akbare, tomatoes, and bitter gourds are being produced here.
He said, ‘There is no problem of where to sell vegetables. They are being consumed locally in Dulegonda, Khairenitar, Bhimad, and other places.’
