Kathmandu. CPN (Maoist Center) MP Janardan Sharma has said that problems have arisen in democratic practice due to the tendency of political parties to form unprincipled alliances when they get an opportunity rather than improving the republic and the livelihood of the people.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, MP Sharma said this. He also warned against imagining a return to monarchy as the alternative to democracy is advanced democracy. He said that he is not afraid of a return to monarchy but is afraid of whether he can correct his shortcomings or not.

Whose fault is it that he has not been able to make laws according to the needs of the people when he reaches the second term of the implementation of the constitution? He asked.

He said, “Even though we have drafted a constitution, we should have worked hard to improve the situation in the country. Rather than improving the republic and the people’s livelihood, the tussle for power between parties and leaders, the lust for power, the slander and insults towards each other, and the tendency to join unprincipled alliances whenever the opportunity arises have all created some problems and distrust in democratic practice. I am not afraid that the monarchy will return. I am only afraid of whether we can correct our shortcomings or not.” Whose fault is it that we are not able to exercise our rights through the implementation of the constitution and make laws according to the people’s wishes and needs when we reach the second term of the constitution?’

He says that one should not make the mistake of accepting that the problem of not making the provinces effective and the local levels strong is the fault of the centralized mentality.
