First commercial charter flight from Pokhara to Chendu successful

China: For the first time, a commercial charter flight has been operated from Pokhara International Airport to Chengdu in Sichuan Province, a friendly country in China. Two years after the inauguration of the airport, the first commercial charter flight was operated from Pokhara to Chengdu in Sichuan Province, China on Tuesday.

After continuous efforts to operate international flights from Pokhara International Airport, the first commercial charter flight was operated for the first time under the initiative of private sector tourism entrepreneurs and the leadership of the Pokhara Tourism Council in collaboration with Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Sichuan Airlines, and the Chinese Association in Nepal.

Being a direct witness to the first international flight, Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Taranath Pahari, Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province Chief Maniraj Lamichhane, Pokhara Visit Year 2025 Performance Committee Coordinator Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, and 126 tourism entrepreneurs and A team of media personnel has come to Chengdu to promote various tourism programs.

The Pokhara team, including the Metropolitan Mayor, was given a grand welcome at Chengdu Airport by Nepali Consul General to China Suresh Raut, high-ranking officials of Sichuan Province, representatives of Sichuan Airlines, and others.

On the occasion, Metropolitan Mayor Acharya said that the first commercial charter flight was made through the continuous efforts of the Metropolitan City and the Pokhara Tourism Council, despite the fact that international flights had not been operated from the Pokhara International Airport, which was inaugurated on January 1, 2023, even after two years of its inauguration.

Regarding the tourism development of Pokhara, the Chinese Embassy has also expressed its support for the tourism cooperation between the two countries. Mentioning that there have been discussions among businessmen regarding the launch of ‘BTU’, he informed that programs including BTU are being planned as part of this campaign.

Informing that 1,250 tourists from Chendu will travel to Pokhara through various flights, Metropolitan Mayor Acharya said that work will be done to send tourists from there as well.
