Nepalgunj. The Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection Office has taken action against 69 commercial firms in the eight months of the current fiscal year and imposed a fine of Rs 1 million 50 thousand.
During that period, Hari Bahadur Khatri, the head of the office, informed that action was taken against those firms for offenses including not obtaining a license, selling expired goods, and not maintaining a price list. The office is issuing licenses for import and export, conducting market monitoring, and conducting school consumer education programs.
The office, which has a jurisdiction over 16 districts including Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Pyuthan, Rolpa and East Rukum in Lumbini Province and all districts of Karnali Province, has suggested to the regulatory body to bring those who violate consumer rights in a way that seriously affects the health of consumers under the ambit of action.
The said office had taken action against 43 firms in the fiscal year 078/079, 35 in the fiscal year 079/080, and 140 in the fiscal year 080/081, and collected a fine of 3.295 million.
