Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has urged people to transact only through banks and financial institutions regulated by the National Bank. Addressing the ‘Global Money Week’ organized in Kathmandu on Monday, he said that the habit of saving should be developed from banks and financial institutions licensed by the National Bank.
He said that Nepal Rastra Bank has taken financial inclusion as an important agenda in addition to its core mandate. According to him, the National Bank has a mindset that all the general public should have bank accounts and that those accounts should be actively operated.
He said that learning something and getting some financial information will bring some changes in the behavior of ordinary students, and that being financially aware will also bring about a change in behavior.
He said, ‘You can also be personally safe in the future. It helps in building a clean society. It is not limited to that, students also help in making the entire nation clean. Therefore, the nation has been making efforts for education in this regard so that students should be financially aware at an early age. In this regard, we have tried to include financial literacy and inclusion in the school curriculum. We are making efforts, we have jointly conducted an interaction program with the Curriculum Development Center this year on how to include financial education in the curriculum. Saving is an important aspect of financial education. Core saving is necessary. No matter how difficult it is, you should save through financial institutions, and you should also take care of your budgeting.’
Governor Adhikari said that it is necessary to develop the habit of spending according to your ability, just like swallowing a bone by looking at your neck. He said that the National Bank is raising awareness about financial literacy across the country and will continue to make it widespread.
