Mexican Finance Minister Marcelo Ebrard described the tariffs as unfair. Mexico’s steel exports to the United States had been declining since 2022. American steel imports had increased.
On March 4, US President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on Mexico.
With about 80 percent of Mexico’s exports going to the United States, analysts have warned that Trump’s tariff hikes pose significant challenges for both economies.
