Bhojpur. The settlement has turned into a ruin when the locals of Bhojpur Manebhanyang left the village due to the problem of monkeys. The settlement has turned into a ruin when the locals of this place in Ramprasadrai Rural Municipality-5 migrated.
A local and principal of Bhanubhakta Primary School, Prakash Parajuli, said that the settlement has become a ruin as about 150 families have moved from this area to other places in the past decade and a half.
He said that the settlements of Archale, Bhorleni, Damaichhap, Gurase Ranagaun, Thakle and Mohoriya have become empty due to the increase in migration mainly due to monkeys and water problems. He said that 98 percent of the people in these areas, which are in Ward Nos. 8 and 9 of Sabik, have left the village and gone elsewhere.
He said that there are now only two houses out of a total of 35 houses in Archle village, three houses out of 33 houses in Bhorleni, 40 houses out of 80 houses in Damaichhap and 25 houses in Thakle. Similarly, teacher Parajuli said that there are now only 35 out of 65 houses in Gurase and Ranagaun and only 35 out of 80 households in Mohoriya.
‘Many settlements in Manebhanyang have become dilapidated as locals have left the villages,’ said teacher Parajuli, ‘People are moving elsewhere mainly due to monkeys and drinking water problems. Many villages with dense human settlements have become ruins.’
He said that in the past, the Bhanubhakta Primary School where he teaches used to have around 300 students, but now there are only 50.
‘Development work is underway in the village, including road and electricity,’ he said. ‘People are leaving the settlements and moving elsewhere. When people from the lower areas leave the settlements, monkeys have started causing trouble in the upper areas. If the monkey population continues like this, the entire village will be empty. The state needs to pay attention to monkey control, which is the main problem of farmers.’
Jagat Kumar Tamang, a local from Archale, said that the monkey problem has troubled farmers and that he is currently living in a house in a vacant settlement on a contract basis. He said that there are only two houses in Archale, including his own. He said that those who have left have left their houses and properties without selling them, and those houses have also started collapsing due to lack of protection.
‘I am also living in someone else’s house here on a contract basis,’ he said, ‘All the houses here have collapsed and become ruins because they were left without selling them. As people leave the settlement, the fertile land has become barren. Out of a total of 35 houses here, we now have only two houses.’
He says that it is very difficult to make a living living in a settlement that everyone has left. He says that monkeys are causing more trouble because the settlement is empty. He says that electricity has not been expanded because everyone has left the settlement. There is also a problem with electricity expansion due to the lack of permanent residents.
Tamang said that if the state does not introduce programs to control monkeys and utilize the vacant barren land, many such settlements will become ruins. He says that many farmers are facing problems because of monkeys.
