Kathmandu. Electricity Regulatory Commission member Bhagirathi Bhattarai Gyawali has taken oath. Bhattarai, who was appointed as a member of the commission by the Council of Ministers meeting held on Falgun 26, took the oath at the ministry today in the presence of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka.
She was administered the oath by Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Ram Prasad Dhital. Bhattarai, who had previously served as a member of the same commission from 2076 BS to 2081 Baisakh, took the oath for her second term today.
A member of the commission during its establishment, she worked as the coordinator of the Electricity Consumer Rights, Interests and Protection Committee at the same time. She was a member of the Drinking Water Tariff Commission from 2069 BS to 2073 BS.
She was previously an independent director of Global IME Bank. At the swearing-in ceremony, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka said that the Regulatory Commission has been completed, albeit slowly, and that the responsibility of the regulatory body is also increasing as production increases.
‘The government has set a target of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035, and the responsibility of the regulatory body is even greater to meet that target,’ he said.
Minister Khadka said that the commission should quickly decide on the fee to be paid while bringing the private sector in the construction of transmission lines. He said that the commission should also study how to provide electricity at a concessional rate to those who purchase more electricity.
Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Suresh Acharya urged the commission to use its knowledge, skills and capabilities to the maximum extent as the importance and role of the regulatory body has been increasing in recent times.
Chairman of the Electricity Regulatory Commission Ram Prasad Dhital mentioned that the commission is working to fulfill the goals of the energy development roadmap adopted by the government. The program was attended by Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi, Senior Energy Expert of the Ministry Prabal Adhikari, Director General of the Department of Electricity Development Navinraj Singh, members of the Electricity Regulatory Commission and others.
