Damauli. The students of Talbesi Secondary School located in Shuklagandaki Municipality-9 have started to become self-reliant after they started teaching practical skills along with practical education. The students of the school have recently started to become self-reliant in folk music.
The students have been excited after the school recently recognized the students’ abilities and managed the Naumati music with the aim of preserving folk culture. Principal Dhruv Wagle informed that the Talbesi music group was formed in the school with the active participation of students from grades 6 to 8.
He said that the students have started playing the Naumati music in the cultural, educational and other auspicious functions of the school. He said, ‘After teaching practical skills along with practical education, the students have been able to play the Naumati music. Parents are also amazed by the talent of the students.’
The Talbesi Baja Club has been formed under the coordination of class 7 student Suk Bahadur BK, along with class 7 students Susan Sunar, Sijan BK, Krishna Sunar, Sudip Baidas, Nishan Thapa, and class 8 students Rubin Baidas, Arbin Pariyar, and Prasun Poudel.
Says that he was unable to be creative because he only read and wrote books, and that after the school arranged for the instrument, it became easier for him to manage the expenses of buying the general paper and pens he needed.
He said, ‘I have been interested in the field of musical instruments since I was a child. I would like to thank the school for trying to fulfill my desire to have fun.’ Saying that he tried to be creative at a young age, the group’s coordinator Suk Bahadur BK said that he moved forward professionally after the school provided a set of musical instruments through the ward.
He said, ‘I used to be busy with one or the other work at home. Now, after Shuklagandaki Municipality-9 provided a set of musical instruments, the path to moving forward professionally has been opened for me.’ BK says that the use of Baja has increased regularly in other matters besides conducting extracurricular activities at the school.
Dhan Bahadur Thapa, Ward Chairman of Shuklagandaki Municipality-9, said that the Baja program has been given priority because the Dalit population in the school’s service area is high and the potential of this area for folk culture related to Baja is also wide.
He said, ‘Keeping the demands of the school as the first priority, the ward office has given importance to programs that will facilitate the development of the potential of the students. Students are the leaders of the future. The plan we make should be long-term.’
The school is committed to broadening the scope of student identity and helping students discover their potential, said Binod Raut, chairman of the school management committee. He mentioned that the school is moving forward towards practical education by identifying the potential of the students.
Kamal Thapa, a ward member and member of the school management committee, said that it is the only secondary school in the ward and that the local government is committed to the development of the physical, educational and environmental aspects of the school.
Teacher Damodar Regmi, the school’s extracurricular activities coordinator, said that musical instruments are indispensable for teaching social studies and human values, and since the school is an important area for promoting folk culture, the folk instrument program is important for the school.
He said, ‘There is a group of nine student brothers from classes 6 to 8 who have taken the responsibility of operating and managing the folk instrument. Not only at school, but also at various programs of Shuklagandaki Municipality and the inaugural session of the 16th President’s Running Shield Competition at Tanahun District Level, the student brothers skillfully displayed their artistic skills by playing the instrument.
