Agency. NASA and SpaceX have launched two new missions on a single rocket to collect data from the Sun. SPAREX (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe) and PUNCH (Polarimeter for the Integration of the Heliosphere) were launched from SpaceX in Spaceport, California at 8:10 a.m. Pacific Time.
After the launch, NASA confirmed that all instruments were successfully deployed. SPAREX will survey the sky in optical and infrared light and collect data on one million stars in the Milky Way.
Every six months, SPAREX will scan the entire sky and produce a map in 96 color bands, according to NASA. The Panch mission will use four suitcase-sized satellites to observe the Sun and its atmosphere. According to NASA, the satellites, located in low Earth orbit, will work together to provide 3D observations.
