Gandaki. The physical progress of the Pokhara-Muglin Road Project (Western Section) has reached 43.34 percent. So far, 29.47 km of the road has been blacktopped in the total distance of 38.88 km. The project engineer Sowan Nepal has informed that 15.32 km of the four-lane road has been blacktopped in both directions and 14.15 km in one direction.
The deadline for the construction of the said road is until Poush 2082 BS. The deadline was extended twice before. Engineer Nepal said that only two km of the road in Tanuhun on the west side remains to be blacktopped. He said that road expansion, infrastructure preparation and blacktop work are underway in the Kaski section. The agreement was signed on Jestha 2, 2078 BS, and work began on Bhadra 12, 2078 BS, in the western section connecting Jamune in Tanahun to the tourism capital Pokhara. Engineer Nepal said that the target is to complete the work within a year.
Chinese construction company Yanhui Kaiyuan Highway and Bridge Construction is expanding and upgrading the road. Engineer Nepal informed that blacktop work is underway in places including Chauthe, International Airport in Pokhara, Amarsingh Chowk, Budhi Bazaar. He said that construction has also gained momentum in the section from Talchowk to Gagan Dauda in Pokhara Metropolitan City-27. To the west, blacktop has been completed in sections including Tharpu, Turture in Tanahun, and Lower Gagan Dauda in Kaski. Engineer Nepal said that half of the road from Jamune in Tanahun to Seti Bridge in Pokhara will be six lanes and half will be four lanes.
He said that the construction of bridges on Biyajpur Khola and Seti River is also underway. The project office has stated that nine of the 12 road bridges in the western section are in the final stage of construction. The Chinese construction company has taken over the responsibility of constructing the western section at a cost of Rs 7.40 billion 4.6 million. The work of expanding and upgrading the Pokhara-Muglin road, which is a total of 81 km long, is being done with the loan assistance of the Asian Development Bank.
The construction company China Communication Construction had also started work on the eastern section, which is a total of 41.45 km, since Baisakh 2078 BS. The project office has stated that the road upgrading and blacktop work in the eastern section has reached the final stage. As this government-priority road project is under construction, Pokhara’s transportation service has become somewhat inconvenient. Locals have complained that the road upgrading is being done a little later than the target.
After the upgrading of the main road connecting the capital of Gandaki Province, transportation service from Pokhara to various parts of the country will be easy and fast. It is believed that the four-lane road will help increase economic and tourism activities in the entire Gandaki Province. Engineer Nepal said that the compulsion of the general public to travel for hours in dust and mud while traveling to Pokhara will soon end.
