Kathmandu. The government has appointed Dr. Raghuraj Kafle as the Executive Director of the Health Insurance Board. Out of the three candidates selected based on the recommendations of the recommendation committee, Dr. Kafle, a development economist from Tanahun, has been appointed as the Executive Director.
According to information released here today by the private secretariat of Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel, the recommendation committee had recommended the names of Dr. Krishna Prasad Adhikari and Kamal Panthi, along with Dr. Kafle, to the Council of Ministers in the final list after presentations and interviews on February 18 and 19.
Dr. Kafle was a member of the Insurance Suggestion Task Force formed by Minister Poudel. The task force had handed over a report with suggestions for health insurance reforms to Minister Poudel. Dr. Kafle previously served as the Vice Chairman of the Policy and Planning Commission of Gandaki Province and the Executive Director of the Foreign Employment Board.
While on the board, Dr. Kafle launched various new welfare programs for the benefit of workers and dependent families.
Dr. Kafle worked as a senior official at the United Nations Development Program for more than a decade. He has also been involved in the formulation of various development strategies. Dr. Kafle, who holds a PhD in economics, also taught for a long time.
