Microsoft increases investment in AI infrastructure technology in Africa

Kathmandu. Microsoft has announced that it will invest 5.4 billion rand (about 29.7 million US dollars) to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in South Africa by the end of 2027.

Microsoft President Brad Smith made the announcement at an event in Johannesburg. The event was also attended by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Smith said the company has invested 20 billion rand over the past three years to establish its first enterprise-scale data centers in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.

Speaking at the event, Ramaphosa welcomed the investment, saying it reflects continued confidence in South Africa and its economy. “The South African economy has immense potential and is a favorable place to do business, where their investments are safe,” he added.
