Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has said that no budget has been allocated for fertilizer factories in Nepal in the current fiscal year. He said this while answering questions from members in the National Assembly meeting on Friday.

He said that although the budget for the last fiscal year mentioned the establishment of a fertilizer factory with public-private investment, the budget for the current fiscal year did not mention this issue. He said that a large investment and infrastructure would be required for the establishment of a fertilizer factory. He said that studies are being conducted through relevant agencies and foreign organizations on issues including investment, infrastructure development and market management.

Minister Adhikari informed that a pre-feasibility study was conducted in Vikram Samvat 2072 by JICA to produce 700,000 metric tons of fertilizer annually with an investment of 72 billion. He said that a study has been conducted by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGI) and Kathmandu University regarding the possibility of establishing a green urea factory in the current fiscal year.
