HPV vaccine is completely safe: Health Minister Poudel

Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has clarified that there is no truth in the statement that HPV vaccine is being used for trial. He said that according to the studies conducted so far, the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine against cervical cancer has been found to be safe and no negative effects have been seen.

While answering an oral question in today’s meeting of the National Assembly, Minister Poudel said, “This vaccine protects against human papilloma virus infection that causes cervical cancer. This vaccine is safe and effective. There have been no serious side effects or incidents so far.”

MP Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) asked how safe is this vaccine administered to adolescents from a health perspective? And asked when the government would make arrangements to administer this vaccine to men. In response, Minister Poudel said that it is also administered to men in other countries and informed that homework is being done to see if it can be made available from partner countries.

So far, 1.4 million girls have been vaccinated in the campaign launched nationwide since Magh 22. According to the Ministry of Health, it will be administered as a regular vaccination to girls in grade 6 and 10-year-old girls who are not attending school from next year.
