Kathmandu. The social security fund launched by the government for the social security of 565,000 workers in the formal sector is still showing little attraction. According to the Social Security Fund, 565,000 workers working in 20,190 establishments have participated in the social security scheme.

According to the 2078 census, the total labor force of Nepal is estimated to be around 16.8 million. The number of workers working in the formal sector is estimated to be between 2.5 million and 3.5 million. The largest workforce in the formal sector has not yet been able to go to the social security fund.

While the attraction is not increasing, the government has revised the working procedure. Deputy Executive Director of the Social Security Fund, Vivek Panthi, said that the working procedure has been amended five times to increase the attractiveness of the social security scheme and it has been implemented.

According to the amended arrangement, contributors who have contributed for at least 3 months continuously in the last 6 months, their spouses and children under the age of 18 will receive medical treatment, health and maternity protection scheme facilities under the medical treatment and health protection scheme. There is a provision that the contributor will bear all the expenses incurred in other accidents not exceeding 7 lakh rupees and in accidents that occur in the course of work.

A new arrangement has been made such that the facility will start after the first three months of continuous contribution for contributors who have started contributing to the fund, while it will remain in effect for 3 months after the labor relationship ends and contributions cease. So far, 75.36 billion rupees have been collected in the Social Security Fund. This program was launched by KP Oli when he was the Prime Minister last time.
