We are preparing to increase the salaries of doctors and nurses: Health Minister Poudel

Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has said that the government is moving forward to provide remuneration to doctors and nurses as stipulated in the Labor Act. He said this while addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 75th foundation day of the Nepal Medical Association in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

He said that the Council of Ministers has already received in-principle approval to hire 500 doctors from the Public Service Commission at once. He informed that the government is moving forward to request that the remuneration of doctors and nurses be increased both in the government and in the private sector. He said that the government is moving forward to strictly implement the provision that the minimum remuneration prescribed by the Labor Act must be provided.

He expressed confidence that if doctors can only create a situation where they can earn their daily living, the number of people going abroad will decrease. He informed that the government is taking legal measures to create a situation where doctors can work without pressure.

Minister Poudel said that Nepali medical education has become credible in the world. He claimed that the number of doctors being produced is increasing compared to the past. He said that there have been many improvements in Nepal’s health sector compared to the past. He said that despite the production of necessary doctors, the lack of active human resources within Nepal is a big challenge. He informed that it is necessary to be serious about how to create a situation where doctors can stay in Nepal.
