Kathmandu. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has held discussions with cement industrialists and construction entrepreneurs. After the Nepal Construction Entrepreneurs Federation complained that the price of cement had not decreased, discussions were held with both sides at Singha Durbar on Monday.

During the discussions, construction entrepreneurs complained that cement manufacturers have kept the increased price unchanged, while manufacturers have claimed that the price has decreased.

Construction Entrepreneurs Federation President Ravi Singh complained that most cement manufacturers are trading at the same increased price, and said, “The agreement to sell by adding some amount to the district rate has not been implemented, although some manufacturers have reduced the price slightly, the price of most of them is the same.” Construction entrepreneurs allege that cement manufacturers are even engaging in cartelizing.

Meanwhile, cement manufacturers said that Minister Bhandari’s decision last month They have claimed to have implemented the agreement reached in the initiative. They have claimed to be selling cement at Rs. 115 more than the average price at the time of fixing the district rate. They have committed that they are ready to face action if the price is higher than that.

Cement Producers Association President Raghu Nandan Maru said, ‘We have fully complied with the commitment made to the Minister. Some companies may have taken some more money while trading on credit, but overall it is not like that, trading is currently being done based on the agreement we have.’ He also claimed that there is no cartel in cement.

Industry Minister Bhandari said that if the cement industry does not implement the agreement, the government will be forced to find other options. Last month, there was a complaint from general consumers and construction entrepreneurs that the price of cement was unnaturally increased.

To facilitate this, Minister Bhandari had repeatedly communicated with the relevant parties and taken the initiative to determine appropriate prices. Since cement producers and construction entrepreneurs are complementary to each other, he suggested moving forward by keeping a close distance.
