Kathmandu. The number of containers being inspected and cleared at the Chobhar Dry Port customs has started increasing. Instead of coming only from the Birgunj customs office, they have also started coming from the Tatopani customs checkpoint.

The Chobhar Dry Port has been operational since Chaitra 22, 2078. While containerized cargo and new vehicles used to arrive at Chobhar from Birgunj for customs clearance, cargo vehicles have started arriving at Chobhar Dry Port from Tatopani checkpoint for customs clearance from February 15, 2081.

On February 15, 2081, four containers carrying hydropower imported by Covec-Cregc-Kalika Joint Venture arrived at Chobhar Dry Port for customs clearance from Tatopani checkpoint for the first time.

The Ministry of Finance published a notice in the Gazette on February 15, 2081, stating that the goods would be transported internally from Tatopani and Rasuwa Customs Offices to the Chobhar Dry Port. A road route was designated for importers who wanted to bring goods for customs clearance at the dry port customs office. Earlier, only the southern border posts of Birgunj, Biratnagar, Kakadbhitta and Bhairahawa Customs Offices were allowed to bring goods to the Chobhar Dry Port for customs clearance.

After containerized goods started coming from the Tatopani border post for customs clearance, the Chobhar Dry Port has become more busy and will provide additional support to bring the dry port into full operation, said Ashish Gajurel, Executive Director of Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee.

The Executive Director also informed that importers and exporters will regularly come to Chobhar in their cargo vehicles in the coming days as they will receive adequate physical infrastructure, minimum service fees and quality services. Similarly, in the coming days, vehicles and containers will also be coming from Rasuwanaka for customs clearance. Executive Director Ashish Gajurel emphasized to the businessmen to make maximum use of this port as the Chobhar Dry Port will provide quality services for goods imported into Kathmandu and exported from Kathmandu and surrounding areas.
