Kathmandu. Chinese President Xi Jinping said in an article published ahead of a major political meeting in Beijing that the country’s economy still faces “many difficulties.”

“The adverse impact of changes in the external environment has deepened, and China’s economy still faces many difficulties and challenges,” Xi said in an article published Friday in the ruling Communist Party’s official newspaper Qiushi.

“Despite the problems in economic reform, it must also be acknowledged that China’s economic fundamentals remain solid, with numerous advantages, strong resilience and vast potential,” President Xi said. He added, “The situation supporting long-term growth and the overall positive path has not changed.”

Analysts expect China’s political leadership to prepare plans to protect the ailing economy from US President Donald Trump’s tax hikes and trade risks at a meeting in the “two sessions” next week.

All eyes will be on the opening of the National People’s Congress (parliament) on Wednesday, when Premier Li Keqiang sets economic growth targets for 2025.
