Kathmandu. Nepal Communist Party (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said that the problem is not that political parties have not been able to build the country, but that the situation for building the country has not been created.
At a trainer training program organized by the UML Professional Special District Committee here today, he claimed that political parties have not been able to focus their full attention on development due to various problems arising in the country.
‘Although the environment for political parties to work was prepared in 2074 BS, the government at that time was not able to work properly. The government led by the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, which was formed after the unification of the UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) on a weak foundation, also had problems working,’ said General Secretary Pokharel.
He said that the two major political parties have started working together to prevent further problems from arising as the country has become economically weak and socially chaotic.
‘Efforts are being made to move the country forward. Now our time is not wasted in confusion. Work is being done to solve the problems currently seen. After the formation of the new government, some progress has been made in the process of economic reform,’ added General Secretary Pokharel, ‘The investment environment has been created. Interest rates have decreased. Capital expenditure has increased. Taxes have started to rise more than before. Broad economic indicators are improving.’
He said that even if the Nepali Congress and UML form a government together, they will contest the upcoming elections alone without an alliance. ‘When forming an alliance, the situation remains that small parties remain in parliament and they continue to create instability. We will go to the elections alone with the belief that this must end,’ said General Secretary Pokharel.
In the program, President of the Professional Federation, Punya Prasad Dhakal, said that there is no alternative to moving forward from instability in the country.
