Taplejung. The Gurans have started blooming in the forest areas of Taplejung. This colorful shade of Gurans is not only beautiful, but also a potential opportunity for tourism promotion. Like every year, this time too, local businessmen and people related to tourism seem optimistic with the Gurans blooming.
The forests around Suketar Airport, located at an altitude of three thousand meters above sea level, look black with Gurans blooming. This attracts nature lovers, but also has a positive impact on the tourism industry. Locals say that business increases during the Gurans blooming season.
People come from far and wide to see Gurans. Those who come here not only enjoy the Gurans, but also because of this, business has been supported. LB Rai of Phungling Municipality-7 said that the Gurans have bloomed a little earlier this year than last year.
After the Gurans started blooming, social media has also started to become colorful. Photos taken by people with Gurans are becoming popular on social media.
Some tourists prefer to trek here not only to see Gurans, but also to enjoy the natural beauty. Locals say that such activities have helped in promoting tourism in the Pathibhara area.
The Gurans are not limited to displaying beauty. They also have medicinal properties. The leaves, bark and flowers of Gurans are used in various medicines. At the local level, initiatives are being taken to increase economic activity by producing pickles, syrups, and alcohol from guarans.
Kanchha Mukkum, a local farmer from Phungling-9, said that guarans are blooming a little earlier in Taplejung than in the past. Mukkum said that tourism can be promoted by protecting guarans in a more systematic way. He stressed that the government and concerned bodies should establish guarans parks and emphasize its commercial use.
Out of the 32 species of guarans found in Nepal, 28 species are found in Tinjure Milke, the confluence of Taplejung, Tehrathum, and Sankharasabha districts. Ramesh Rai, program coordinator of the Himalayan Conservation Forum, which has been working in the conservation area for a long time, said that there are 26 species of Gurans in the Pathibhara area of Taplejung.
‘The Pathibhara area can become a destination with excellent potential for tourism along with Gurans. The natural beauty here, especially the various species of Gurans that bloom in spring, can be the main factors that attract tourists,’ he said.
If effective publicity, infrastructure development and sustainable tourism strategies can be implemented in collaboration with local bodies, tourism entrepreneurs and the government, this area can be developed as a Gurans Park and tourism can be promoted, he said.
