Kathmandu. Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has urged everyone to be serious about how to make the Nepal Water Supply Corporation profitable, saying that it is in a coma. He said this while addressing the 36th anniversary celebration of the Nepal Water Supply Corporation in Kathmandu on Thursday.
He said that everyone should work seriously on how to make the loss-making water supply corporation profitable. He expressed his commitment to bring the loss-making corporation to profit even if the ministry is sitting on the issue.
He said that the ministry should take steps to bring it out of the coma for legitimate work, and directed the corporation to immediately resolve the problem, saying that the common people have been complaining about the problem of burst pipes and dirty water, but it takes a month to resolve it.
He directed that the problems of the people be resolved in a timely manner, even if it is by establishing a call center. He said that the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Drinking Water was not written on the water tanks built by the government, and directed that from now on, the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Drinking Water should be written on all drinking water tanks. He said that game-changing programs should be introduced to make the drinking water corporation profitable.
Minister Yadav said, “There is a concern about how the drinking water corporation will move forward. How will the corporation, which is in loss, become profitable? Most of the branches are in loss. Since this is a corporation run by the spirit of service and drinking water is such an important matter, it should be kept operational even in loss. We should think about how to make it profitable. We are taking monthly service facilities from the citizens. But how did the corporation go into loss?”
Minister Yadav mentioned the need to reconsider the water service tariff. He said that there is a current need to increase the quality and quantity of water and adjust the drinking water tariff in line with the times.
Minister Yadav said, ‘The Nepal Water Supply Corporation is running the drinking water service tariff rate that was fixed about 11 years ago. Electricity is definitely not free. If it is not free, we should also consider the tariff. Now the regulations have also come. That has removed many obstacles for you. The tariff should also be reconsidered. We will discuss it soon. Increasing the quality and quantity of water and adjusting the drinking water tariff in line with the times is also a current need. We have to discuss this among ourselves and move forward.’
Minister Yadav said that everyone should come together to save the country. He promised to bring the water of the Jhumsa River to Butwal by April.
