Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has said that old practices need to be changed to make health services effective. He said this at a program organized at the ministry on Thursday on the occasion of Health Services Day.
He admitted that although a situation has been created where health services are easily available, it has not been made effective. He said that the health service flow should be developed and changed based on work experience. He insisted that health services are not in a weak state where they cannot be provided.
He said, “Today, the health service is in a very weak state, it is in a state where it cannot give results, it does not mean that services are not available in the health sector. The situation is that services are available but they are not complete. They have not been effective, they have not been managed. Today’s challenge is to make health services effective and systematic. Therefore, in terms of making health services effective, it is necessary to change the practices that we have been practicing in some contexts, some are topics that need to be developed from our experience. Some new topics need to be introduced. Therefore, I think that we should identify all those contexts and move forward with a systematic health policy.’
Minister Poudel said that only people with special abilities can provide health services. He stressed that health workers cannot work under pressure and stressed that an environment should be created where they can work without pressure. He said that the government should provide a sense of security for health workers.
He said, ‘This work is done by people with specialized abilities, so you have to recognize that your abilities are somewhat specialized. This work is also a bit painful. Doctors and nurses cannot do it under pressure. Therefore, this work cannot be done under pressure. An environment should be created where they can work. If someone does something impulsively, it creates an environment where they become mentally unsafe. We have to create an environment where that doesn’t happen.’
Minister Poudel said that there is a compulsion to expand health services with limited infrastructure, manpower and equipment. He said that preparations are being made to bring an Integrated Health Services Act to make health services effective.
