5.1 million offerings collected in Galeshwor, Myagdi

Myagdi. The Galeshwor Temple, a religious site located in Beni Municipality-9 of the district, has collected more than 5.1 million offerings so far in the current fiscal year. Devotees who came for worship and darshan from last Shrawan to this Falgun 14 have offered 5.122 million offerings, according to the Galeshwor Shivalaya Area Development Fund. Fund Chairman Madhav Prasad Regmi said that the offerings have also increased this year with the arrival of devotees. According to him, 5.84 million 5.10 million offerings were collected in the last fiscal year 2080.81. Regmi informed that this year, 2515,547 offerings were collected on regular basis and 2666,606 on fairs and special occasions.

Rs. 433,774 were collected on Wednesday’s Mahashivaratri festival, 661,294 on Mangsir’s Balachartudashi, and 1,511,538 were collected on the fair on Saune Monday, informed Kumari Pun, treasurer of the fund.

The offerings for the Shivaratri festival were counted and made public this morning in the presence of fund officials, public representatives, and representatives of security agencies. The fund has earned Rs 7,264,682 from Shrawan till now, including Rs 2,142,529 under other headings, said Ram Baniya, office secretary of the fund.

The fund has mobilized the temple’s income for the office, worship management, salaries of temple priests, cooks of senior citizens’ ashrams, and the operation of Sanskrit schools, according to the fund. The offerings offered by devotees at Galeshwor are calculated and made public on the day after the fair and at other times on a monthly basis, said Secretary Baniya.

Vice-chairman of the fund, Bam Bahadur Pun, said that various physical infrastructures have been built at a cost of about Rs 110 million in the last 12 years, with the offerings collected from regular worship and Mahayagya, and donations given by pilgrims. According to him, the physical structures include a dharamshala, assembly hall, garden, yagnashala, pathshala, priest’s residence, restaurant, a road leading to Kaligandaki, one hundred and eight Shivalingas, statues of Jadbharat, Nataraja and Lakshmi Narayan.

The Galeshwar Shivalaya area, located on a rock spread over an area of nine ropanis on the banks of the Kaligandaki River, is considered the gateway to Muktinath, a common pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists.

In Hindu scriptures, it is mentioned that Sati Devi’s throat fell and the name Galeshwar was given to this temple. A special fair is held on the Monday of Shrawan, Balachartudashi and Shivaratri festivals. In addition, daily worship is held here. It is believed that visiting and worshiping Galeshwar will fulfill one’s wishes.
