Dhorpatan. Rudra Lake is located near the Dhorpatan Valley. This lake, located near the Burtibang-Dhorpatan road, has recently been attracting increasing attention from domestic and foreign tourists.

Dhorpatan Municipality has also started protecting the lake as it has become a favorite among tourists due to its religious significance. Deputy Mayor Dhan Bahadur Kayat (Welfare) informed that the work of protecting the lake has been taken forward with the 2.5 million allocated by Dhorpatan Municipality in the current fiscal year.

He said that Rudra Lake, located in the middle of the forest, is naturally beautiful and it has been further managed. Deputy Chief Kayat said that preparations have been made to build a footpath with railings from the road to the lake this year, a drinking water source and a fence.

Says that although work has been done to protect the lake before, it has not been organized yet, and that discussions are also underway on the construction of clean drinking water and a resting place for tourists.

‘This lake is also connected to religious beliefs. Earlier, it was neglected because it was not connected by a road. Now, since a road has been built near the lake to reach the Dhorpatan Valley, every tourist who reaches the hunting reserve area must have seen the lake. We have made efforts to protect it. “Some work will be done this year, the rest will be done in the coming days,” said Deputy Chief Kayat.

Tourists can observe wildlife coming to the lake to drink water from up close. Recently, tourists have started enjoying the lake and wildlife, including deer and ghoral, up close.

There is a popular belief that bathing in the water flowing from this lake at the head of Bhujikhola will prevent skin diseases, which has further helped in promoting tourism.

Bir Bahadur Ghartimagar of Municipality-9 said that the lake has become a favorite of many people in recent times after it was connected to the road leading to Nepal’s only Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve.

He informed that the lake, which was deserted until a decade ago, has recently seen a significant increase in tourist activity. Ghartimagar says that if the garden, waiting room, toilet and drinking water can be managed around the lake, it will be much easier and the attraction will increase further.

‘Rudra Lake is a famous lake in this area, such a beautiful lake in the middle of the forest, it still needs publicity and promotion,’ he said, ‘The water in the lake has started drying up, it is not clear why this has happened. If the lake dries up, it will cease to exist, the concerned bodies should pay attention to this.’
