Floodlight installation work at Extratech Oval Cricket Stadium completed

Rupandehi. The work of installing floodlights at the Extratech Oval Cricket Stadium, which is being built by a private company in Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi, has been completed.

5 floodlights have been installed on the ground. This is the first time that floodlights have been installed in any cricket ground in Nepal. The floodlight testing work, which was installed at a cost of more than Rs 70 million, will begin today (Tuesday), informed the stadium’s managing director Binod Kunwar.

The stadium, whose foundation stone was laid on 29 Jestha 2080, was inaugurated on 28 Falgun 080 and the Legends Cup cricket tournament was organized.

Since then, more than a hundred matches have been held at the district and local levels in this ground. Nepal’s women’s team that played the Under-19 World Cup and Nepal Premier League team Lumbini Lions also practiced at this ground.

15 out of 46 matches of the Prime Minister’s Cup cricket, which will start from 25 Falgun, will be held at this ground. Necessary work is currently underway at the ground for the Prime Minister’s Cup.

Managing Director Kunwar said that he is happy that the Nepal Cricket Association CAN has selected Extratech Oval for the Prime Minister’s Cup cricket.

The ground, which has seven pitches, will now not only host matches but also the first floodlit day-night match in Nepal. The light testing will be completed in a few days and it will be ready for day-night matches.

Managing Director Kunwar said that they are preparing to increase the capacity of the light if necessary and will have it tested by the concerned bodies and players.

On the one hand, the field is ready and the work on floodlights is underway, while on the other hand, the construction of other structures is also progressing at a rapid pace. The pitch for net practice has also reached the final stage.

Six pitches are being built for net practice. Kunwar said that more than Rs 250 million has been spent on the field so far, excluding the land. Two four-storey buildings are being built. Where there will be a VIP box, player box, changing room and media box. And the work on these structures is in the final stage.

A 900-seat capacity parapet will be built in the VIP building. A 25,000-seat capacity parapet will be built in this ground, which is targeted to be completed within the next 2 years. Kunwar said that this work will start soon. According to him, the 5,000-seat capacity parapet will be ready within a year.
