Myagdi. The Pakher-Barangja-Mahesh-Dhapung-Tarakhola road connecting Mangala in Myagdi and Tarakhola rural municipality in Baglung has been upgraded 15 years after it was opened.
This road, which was opened in 2066 BS and used by residents of Wards 3 and 4 of Mangala rural municipality and Tarakhola rural municipality in Baglung, had been operating with minor repairs. Barangja is a former VDC with a high population density in Myagdi.
The Infrastructure Development Office said that 40 percent physical progress has been made in the three months since the construction of the project launched by Bishnu Poudel, Chief of Myagdi, to upgrade the road from Mangala Rural Municipality-3 to Pakher in Barangjakhand began.
‘The construction company, which has been operating in the area since last Mangsir, has completed work equivalent to the budget of 16 million allocated this year in three months,’ he said. ‘We have proposed to the ministry to transfer the amount after the allocated budget is exhausted.’
The three-kilometer, five-hundred-meter road from Pakher to Kharkatol has been widened at a rate of seven meters. Drainage and retaining walls are being constructed.
According to Bir Bahadur Poudel, a resident of Kharkatol, the three to three.5 meter wide dirt road with uneven grade and narrow road was dangerous. He said that he expected the road to be easier after the road is upgraded.
After the grade and drainage and wall construction are completed, there is a plan to gravel and slope in some places. Construction company representative Nawaraj Karki said that the ongoing road construction work has had to be stopped due to budget shortage.
NK United JV had signed a contract agreement for the construction of this road in Ashar 2081 for Rs. 58.6 million. 3 thousand. The contract period is 18 months.
Resham Bahadur Jugjali, a member of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly elected from Myagdi 1(2), said that the construction was affected due to the budget cut this time for the project, which was awarded a contract with an allocation of Rs 20 million last year and secured resources from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
‘The provincial government had signed a contract agreement with various construction companies for the simultaneous construction of seven road upgrades and two motorable bridges in Myagdi, including Pakher-Barangja, for Rs 677.8 million,’ he said. ‘The construction work was affected because the budget was allocated at the rate of Rs 20 million and Rs 16 million for a project that required a budget of Rs 50 million. .’
During the zero hour of last week’s provincial assembly meeting, Jugjali drew the government’s attention to the issue of the road and motorable bridge construction projects in Myagdi being affected due to budget shortage and sought a response from the departmental minister.
