Provincial government will facilitate resolution of land-related issues: Chief Minister Acharya

Lumbini. Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has said that the provincial government will coordinate and facilitate to resolve land-related problems. Addressing the provincial-level orientation program organized by the Land Problem Resolution Commission today, he mentioned that the provincial government will effectively facilitate to resolve the problems of landless squatters, landless Dalits and unorganized settlers.

The commission has been entrusted with an important responsibility. May it be fully successful in fulfilling that responsibility, said Chief Minister Acharya, “The provincial government will effectively facilitate with the federal and local governments, and the Land Commission. No reduction in facilitation will be allowed.” Stating that result-oriented work is necessary, he urged to work day and night to resolve the problem. ‘It is important to give quick results, the government will fully support and cooperate with the commission,’ he said.

On the occasion, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Balram Adhikari, said that this is the last constitutional commission formed to provide justice to landless squatters and that it will resolve all land-related problems. ‘This will be the last commission. Even though the commission was formed repeatedly in the past, the problem could not be resolved,’ he said, ‘Now neither will anyone face injustice in land matters, nor will anyone remain landless. We will resolve all the problems once and for all.’

Chairman of the Land Problems Resolution Commission, Hari Prasad Rijal, said that the commission has been formed with constitutional authority to resolve the land problem permanently. ‘People have been discriminated against because of land. This commission is a constitutional commission that will resolve land issues, he said, adding that no citizen will be left without property. The constitution guarantees the right to housing.

296,000 applications have been collected in Lumbini Province. On the basis of which the commission is moving forward with its work, it was informed on the occasion. There are land-related issues in Rupandehi, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kapilvastu, Nawalparasi and other districts of the province. In addition, 1097,000 applications have been collected across the country so far. The chairperson, members and member secretaries of the commissions formed at the district level have been given a joint orientation.

Minister for Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives Dinesh Panthi said that land-related issues could not be resolved in the past and mentioned that the current government has taken concrete steps to resolve them. Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Dhanendra Karki said that the truly landless and squatters should get justice. Bhoj Prasad Shrestha, deputy leader of the CPN-UML Lumbini Province Parliamentary Party, said that the government is moving forward in line with the core values of the people.
