Bhojpur. The construction of a concrete bridge has been completed at Kawakhola, which connects the district headquarters with the southern region. The locals, who have been facing problems for years due to the lack of a bridge, have found relief after the construction of the bridge. The bridge, built on a steel truss open foundation, is 46 meters long, six meters wide and 1.20 meters wide, and is constructed so that pedestrians can walk on both sides, according to the Koshi Province, Provincial Local Road Bridge Support Unit. The bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs 46.274,910 including VAT.
Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality Chairman Prem Kumar Rai said that the construction of the bridge on Kawakhola has directly benefited the citizens of the southern region. Chairman Rai said that after the bridge came into operation, it has facilitated the movement of vehicles and helped in the marketing of agricultural produce.
‘After many initiatives and efforts, the construction of a concrete bridge on Kawakhola has been completed,’ said Chairman Rai. ‘When this river was not bridged, life in the southern region was very difficult. Now, the situation has become easier for movement to the district headquarters.’
Ward Chairman of Hatuwagadhi-2, Vichari Thapa, said that the construction of a bridge at Kawakhola has freed the citizens of the southern region from the situation of having to cross the river at risk. Although the lack of a bridge over the river used to cause a lot of suffering to the sick and locals during the rainy season, he said that now daily life has become easier.
‘After a wait of almost five years, the bridge at Kawakhola has been constructed and is operational,’ said Ward Chairman Thapa. It is impossible to describe the suffering experienced by the citizens due to the lack of a bridge here. During the rainy season, people used to have to cross the river in rows and rows. The construction of the bridge has increased enthusiasm among the locals.’
The foundation stone of this river was laid on 12 Falgun 2076 with the financial support of the Swiss government and work began. The bridge, which was in the final stage of construction, collapsed in Mangsir 2078 after it was tilted. After the bridge collapsed during construction, a new bridge was built here.
