Agreement reached between the protesting doctors’ association and the Ministry of Health

Kathmandu. The Nepal Medical Association, which has been protesting over the provision of medical services, has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Health and Population. After today’s talks, a nine-point agreement was reached in the presence of Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel.

With the above agreement, it has been agreed to withdraw all the agitation programs called by the association from today and return to regular work. A meeting was held between the representatives of the Nepal Medical Association and officials of the ministry at the Ministry of Health and Population. After the talks, Minister Poudel expressed his commitment to implement the agreements reached on behalf of the ministry.

During the talks, the ministry has agreed to write to the Medical Education Commission and other bodies to make necessary arrangements for ensuring service facilities, leave and a healthy workplace for doctors studying in internship and residency as per the prevailing rules of the government.

The 17th meeting of the Medical Education Commission has already decided on the demand to increase the number of postgraduate seats put forward by the association. Similarly, the ministry has committed to taking initiatives with stakeholders for implementation as the commission meeting has already decided to provide the subsistence allowance of resident doctors maintained by the association at the same level as the eighth level of the Government of Nepal.

The ministry has committed to completing the survey on adding posts of doctors and health workers as it has received prior approval from the decision of the Council of Ministers for the organization and management survey and taking it to the Council of Ministers meeting.

Similarly, regarding the permanentization of the employees of the Development Committee, a three-member task force led by the Ministry’s spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, consisting of the Under-Secretary for Administration (1 person) and a representative of the Nepal Medical Association, has decided to prepare and submit the work procedure within a week. .

After the union started the agitation saying that its demands were not met, Minister Poudel had deployed a team to negotiate to fulfill the demands. An agreement was reached today after two rounds of talks.
