Kathmandu. Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that commendable work is being done under the leadership of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Laying the foundation stone for the reconstruction of Nityanath Sattal, Thapa praised the work done by KMC in heritage conservation.
He said, “Earlier, budget should have been sought from the federal and provincial governments for public interest works, but now KMC has not let us feel the lack of budget. This is a good work.”
To reconstruct the Sattal built in the 19th century in Nawali Tole, KMC-8, along with General Secretary Thapa, Ward Chairman Ashaman Sangat, Head of the Heritage and Tourism Department Kumari Rai and ward members laid the foundation stone at five places at once. An agreement has been reached with the construction party for the reconstruction of the Sattal for Rs 22.7 million excluding tax.
The first floor of the three-storey Sattal will house a library. The second floor will be used for social functions and banquets, according to the metropolis. The third floor, i.e. the Buingal, will house the temple of Nityanath. It is customary to worship Nityanath first to learn about traditional musical instruments and singing. Among the worships performed in this way, the one performed today is considered special.
The Sattal, which was in a dilapidated state due to the earthquake of 1990 BS, was demolished and rebuilt in 2039 BS when Subarna Vaidya was the ward president. An additional floor was added to it and the Sandhya Library was opened. Ward Chairman Sangat said, ‘The Sattal is being reconstructed in the traditional style to maintain the identity of the cultural city.’
Four falchas within the ward have been reconstructed since 2079 BS. Falchas are being constructed to conduct the Vatsaleshwari Jatra by taking ownership of the encroached land. The reconstruction of the Ina Ganesh Temple, the Swarna Ganesh Temple of Intapakha, the Mahamrityunjaya Temple of Jayabageshwari, and the Nityanath Temple in the Pashupati complex have been completed.
