77.7 percent progress on the eastern section of Prithvi Highway

Tanahun. The road expansion work on the eastern section of the Prithvi Highway under the Muglin-Pokhara road has made 77.7 percent physical progress. Out of the 41.45 kilometer long road in the eastern section, 72.1 km of the road has been blacktopped. Of this, 34.5 four-lane and 3.1 two-lane roads have been blacktopped.

According to the project, the second (final) phase of blacktopping has been completed on the 44 km road. Of this, 15.6 are four-lane and 12.73 kilometers are two-lane, informed Bishnu Prasad Pandey, engineer of the eastern section of the project.

In the first phase, a six-centimeter-thick road was blacktopped. In the second phase, a total of 10 centimeters of road will be blacktopped, including four centimeters. He said that the work of blacktopping the ‘double layer’ from Markichowk in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality of the district has been progressed and work has also started in the unblacktopped areas.

‘Out of the two-way roads, one side has been blacktopped and the other side has also been blacktopped,’ he said. ‘The road expansion work is currently gaining momentum in the Damauli section, the district headquarters.’ On Magh 17, 2077 BS, China Construction Company Corporation had signed a contract agreement for 6.21 billion 31 million rupees for the Aanbukhaireni-Jamune section on the eastern section of the Prithvi Highway.

The agreement was made to complete the work by Baisakh 2081 BS. Currently, the construction work has been continued by extending the deadline again. The road is being expanded to four lanes with the help of a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
