Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has said that 20 percent of the money saved from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will be distributed to the American people. Speaking at an event, President Trump announced that 20 percent of the money saved from spending cuts will be distributed to citizens.
Trump said, “We plan to distribute 20 percent of the money saved from spending cuts to American citizens, 20 percent will be used to pay down America’s debt.” America’s public debt alone has reached $33 trillion. Trump is in favor of reducing the public debt.
The DOGE Department is currently being run by billionaire businessman Elon Musk. As soon as Musk came to the department, he proposed staff cuts, reducing the number of employees to one instead of four. Similarly, there have been extensive cuts in global grants given by the US. This is estimated to save the US $ 2 trillion.
Trump plans to distribute $ 400 billion to the American people. Trump has been highly critical of the previous government for increasing investments in unnecessary places and failing to provide facilities to its people. The US has also stopped the USAID and MCC operating in Nepal.
Trump has claimed that it is not appropriate to give grants to Nepal, saying that Nepal is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. The US aid agency, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), has suspended for 90 days, the activities to be paid from MCC funds related to projects being implemented under the Compact concluded between the Government of Nepal and the agency on Bhadra 29, 2074, for a period of 90 days, pursuant to the US President’s order issued on January 20, 2025.
