The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Bill was recently passed by the National Assembly and submitted to the House of Representatives, and he said that it is his top priority to get the bill passed by the House of Representatives soon and make it an Act.
He expressed confidence that the bill would further help in transforming the Alternative Energy Promotion Center into a new organization in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy conversion and establishing a solid legal basis to ensure its role in the new context. Minister Khadka has mentioned that the government has given special priority to the expansion of renewable energy and the adoption of energy efficiency through its policies, strategies, plans and targets.
Minister Khadka claims that the recently approved Energy Development Roadmap and Action Plan, 2081, has given high priority to the efficient and clean energy transformation of renewable energy in line with Nepal’s international commitments on clean energy and climate change and national goals.
Minister Khadka said that the approved roadmap aims to provide electricity to 100 percent of households within the next two years through off-grid solar, wind and small hydropower in places not connected to the national grid, along with a target of increasing the installed capacity to 28,500 megawatts by 2035 and per capita electricity consumption to 1,500 units per year. He informed that the long-term goal of net zero emissions by 2045 is related to national goals and international commitments, including the Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 16th Plan.
