Jhapa. The Agricultural Knowledge Center in eight municipalities of the district is going to sow Chaite rice on 48 bighas of land for testing this year using technology. Sagar Bista, the head of the Agricultural Knowledge Center, has informed that the Chaite rice planting (technology demonstration) is going to be done by machine under the agricultural mechanization demonstration program with the aim of directly informing the farmers that farming done using machinery is cheaper and the production is also higher than traditional farming.
According to him, the center has started planting Chaite rice beds in Hardinath-1 with the help of local municipalities by selecting farmer groups. He informed that the selection includes the Syaldangi Udyamshil Farmer Group of Gauriganj Rural Municipality-9, the Ajambari Farmer Group of Gauradah Municipality-9, the Binayak Farmer Group of Shivasatakshi Municipality-3, and the Pipalganchi Farmer Group of Kamal Rural Municipality-1 from Mai Paschim.
Similarly, the Dipjyoti Farmer Group of Maipurva Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-3, the Sirjana Farmer Group of Arjundhara Municipality-3, the Aapgachhi Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Farm of Bhadrapur Municipality-3, and the Amaraghuttu Farmer Group of Haldibari Rural Municipality-4 will demonstrate the use of agricultural machinery.
He said that agricultural machinery has been provided to farmers free of cost on lease from NMC Agricultural Farm run by Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative Society. He informed that each farmer group will be given six bighas of paddy cultivation. He said that free paddy seeds, seed trays and paddy planting machines have been provided to the farmer groups. Chief Bista said that farmers should take care of the fertilizer, tillage and crop maintenance themselves, and if the seeds kept in the trays start dying, pesticides will be provided free of cost as per the requirement.
He said that most of the designated groups are doing the work of planting the seeds. He said that the seeds grown in 150 trays will cover one bigha of land and this paddy will ripen in 120 days from the day of planting. According to the center, the paddy seeds can be planted in the field within 25 days of planting.
