Agency. Australian businesses have reduced their food waste by 13 per cent since 2022.
The report, published by the government-funded organization Food Waste Australia, found that the country’s largest supermarkets, caterers and food manufacturers collectively produced one million tonnes of food waste in 2024.
This is a 13.7 per cent reduction from 1.1 million tonnes in 2022. Meanwhile, the amount of food not recycled increased from 309,000 tonnes in 2022 to 315,000 tonnes in 2024.
The report said 76 per cent of unsold food was recycled in 2024. This is up from 73 percent in 2022. It aims to halve the country’s food waste by 2030.
