Campaign to control speeding vehicles launched

Bhaktapur. The District Traffic Police Complex, Bhaktapur, has launched a speed control campaign to prevent accidents due to speeding. The campaign was launched from Nicosera Chowk along the Sallaghari, Puranothimi Pepsicola Road, on the border of Madhyapurthimi Municipality-5 and 6.

Pradeep Khatri, Chief and Police Inspector of the District Traffic Police Complex, Bhaktapur, said that the campaign was launched to control the increase in accidents due to the speeding of vehicles on the wide road. The premises, in coordination and support of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, a team including Traffic Police, Municipality, Police Circle Thimi, Division Road Office Bhaktapur, and Municipal Police have today placed public awareness and information boards regarding speed control at 20 places from Nikosera Chowk to Pepsicola Manohara Bridge.

He informed that 160 vehicle accidents occurred on Pepsicola road from Sallaghari to Nikosara, Bahakha Bazaar, Purano Thimi, and Sanothimi from 2081 BS to Falgun 2. It has been found that more accidents occurred due to vehicles operating at high speed on the wide and smooth blacktop road from Pepsicola. Of these, 90 percent are motorcycle and scooter accidents.

Police Inspector Khatri informed that the traffic office has started a campaign by setting a speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour after the increase in accidents. He said that action will be taken against vehicles driving at a speed of more than 40 kilometers per hour on the Manohara to Sanothimi, Nikosera to Sallaghari route.

Says that as per the rules, the speed limit has been set at 40 kilometers per hour on wide roads with high speed and 30 kilometers per hour inside settlements, he said that the speed limit has been set at 50 kilometers per hour from Manohara Khola to Radheradhe Suryabinayak along the Araniko Highway. Traffic police have requested not to drive vehicles at high speeds as they use radar guns to control speed at any time.

Changunarayan Municipality Mayor Jeevan Khatri, Madhyapurthimi Municipality People’s Representative Ramchandra Thapa, Division Road Office Bhaktapur Supervisor Sajan Shrestha and others said that such campaigns are necessary on the main roads of Bhaktapur.

Use of radar guns even at night

District Traffic Police Complex Bhaktapur is taking action by measuring speeding vehicles using radar guns even at night has started. Police Inspector Khatri informed that 49 vehicles were taken into action for speeding during an hour-long investigation between 8 pm and 9 pm on Monday.

He said that the tipper drivers who were driving at high speeds were hitting pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters and other vehicles at night, breaking road poles and roadside fences and even entering other people’s houses. He said that the police have started taking action by using radar guns to measure the speed of the tippers at night.
