Kathmandu. 1.3 million adolescents have received the vaccine from the HPV vaccination campaign conducted by the Ministry of Health and Population with the aim of protecting against cervical cancer. As of Saturday, the 12th day of the campaign, 1.3 million adolescents have received the vaccine, informed Dr. Bivek Kumar Lal, Head of the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services.
Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel had thanked all the health workers, volunteers, supporting schools and all the fellow travelers who have worked so far to make the campaign a success.
The campaign, which started on Magh 22, will run until Falgun 6. During the campaign, girls from grades 6 to 10 and teenagers from 10 to 14 were vaccinated through centers at the local level.
According to Minister Poudel’s secretariat, the target is to vaccinate about 1.7 million teenagers during the campaign. The number of women dying due to cervical cancer is high in the country. The government is implementing programs under preventive methods as part of its plan to reduce this problem by providing vaccination at an early age.
