Patan. Students of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) Patan Joint Campus Unit have rebuilt the library by saving on lunch expenses. The library building, which was damaged by the 2072 BS earthquake, has been renovated, painted and decorated and handed over to the campus administration.
The president of the Nevisangh Patan unit, Tara Sharma, informed that the dilapidated library was rebuilt at a cost of about one million rupees, which was donated by the students after deducting their lunch expenses.
The library was formally handed over to the campus administration after Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh inaugurated it on Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister Singh thanked the students for the good work they did by deducting their lunch expenses. He said that students who do not only politics but also do similar creative work will send a good message to the society.
Deputy Prime Minister Singh had urged the student organization to reassure his friends that it is now possible to study good subjects in Nepal and that courses offered in the world’s best universities can be studied even while staying within the country.
Nepalese Congress central member and National Assembly member Jeetjung Basnet expressed confidence that positive changes will be seen on Patan Campus within the next one year. He appreciated the work done by the students by rising above politics.
Nevisangh Patan unit president Sharma said that a blueprint for the work to be done within a year had been prepared since last year and toilets, libraries, water management, and a first aid center had been constructed.
He informed that a cleanliness campaign had been conducted on the campus premises every Friday for the past 52 weeks. ‘Even after we conducted a constructive agitation for 45 days, there was no improvement in the campus, after which we raised funds from the students. Now Nevisangh has decided that change should be made through constructive work rather than agitation and lockdown,’ he said.
