Nawalpur. A ‘fast charging station’ has come into operation to charge electric vehicles in Kawasoti-11 Lokaha of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Sustapur). The station has been brought into operation so that five vehicles, small and large, can be charged simultaneously.

Local Bishnu Adhikari said that the charging station was brought into operation with an investment of 10 million rupees with the support of the Nepal Electricity Authority. According to him, I had five acres of land adjacent to the highway, and I felt that I had to do something on my own place, so I set up a charging station on that land.

If the highway expansion work is completed quickly, there is a plan to increase the capacity of the charging station and also operate a ‘refresh center’ for drivers.

He said that the only fast charging station built on the 114-kilometer section of the Narayanghat-Butwal road has a facility to charge electric vehicles 24 hours a day.

‘Currently, up to 50 vehicles are being charged daily, and the delay in the work on this road, which is under expansion, has caused problems,’ he said. He said that preparations are underway to add 10 more ‘nozzles’ after the road is expanded.

The official said that he has brought the cafeteria into operation so that passengers do not experience any inconvenience while charging electric vehicles. ‘There are also plans to add a garage for vehicle repairs here,’ he said.

He said that this charging station, which has come into operation in Lokaha, has created an environment for electric vehicle users in the district to travel confidently on the East-West Highway.

The official said that the demand for electric vehicles has been increasing recently and that the electric vehicle fast charging station has been brought into operation in line with the government’s concept of encouraging electric vehicles.

He said that the charging time will take according to the battery capacity of the vehicle and the fee will be charged accordingly. He said that the time taken to charge the vehicle will vary.

‘No vehicle comes here with zero charge, there is still 10/15 percent charge left, charging an EV is like charging a mobile phone,’ he said, ‘An electric vehicle is charged 100 percent within an hour at most.’

The charging station has a 142-kilowatt capacity charger, a 50-kilowatt transformer for power supply, and an online billing system, he said.

The official said that the charging station has 60-60 kilowatt DC and 22 kilowatt AC chargers that can be used for fast charging.
