‘I have had to face many failures, but I am achieving success by learning from those failures and moving forward,’ he said. ‘If I had given up, I would have quit the business by now. Continuous efforts have brought me this far. Now I save Rs 500,000 per month, I am now making up for the loss caused by the chickens not laying eggs last year.’

Although he went to Chitwan in 2063 BS and initially started raising Boiler breed chickens, he has been raising Liers breed chickens for the last 10 years.

Although he continued to achieve success in Chitwan, Subedi said that he returned to Baglung after 13,000 chickens died due to bird flu.

‘I was earning a lot of income, but when bird flu suddenly came, everything went into a loss. I returned to Baglung disappointed because of that, but things were going well since then. Last year, I lost Rs 6 million when the chickens did not lay eggs. “It’s good now, last year’s loss has been helped by the current profit,” he said.

He said that the loss was due to the chickens raised for a long time not laying eggs. Subedi said that a group of five people started raising layer chickens in Bhatkhola in 2070 BS, but now they are running their own private farm.

According to him, 6 million rupees have been invested in the farm so far. He mentioned that technical knowledge is also necessary to achieve significant results in agriculture.

‘Last year, I raised 5,200 chicks, but only 150 laid eggs, while the others did not. I lost about 7 million rupees in feed costs and did not get good eggs in 11 months,’ Subedi said. ‘There is a lot of risk in this business, but if you have technical knowledge, you can earn a lot of income. If you can collect some money to control the risk, there is no loss. Currently, there is a monthly profit of 500,000 rupees, and the price of eggs has been found to be very high.’

He said that he has been selling the eggs produced on the farm himself in the Myagdi, Parbat and Baglung markets by car. Stating that the agricultural sector has not flourished due to unhealthy competition in the market, lack of government support, and society’s negative attitude towards agriculture, Subedi stressed the need for continuous technical support.

Mrs. Shila Subedi has been providing continuous support and motivation to the farm. The Subedi family has been operating the farm by renting 22 ropanis of land for Rs. 60,000 annually.
