Khotang. The hiking trail built in Tuwachung-Jayjum has become a center of attraction for tourists. The hiking trail, built without using concrete at the Kirat historical site of Tuwachung Jayjum in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-7, is 730 meters long.

The hiking trail, which was started with the investment of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, has been named ‘Tuwachung Mini Great Wall’ by Halesi Tuwachung Municipality. The Tuwachung-Jayjung, considered the birthplace of Kirat civilization, has become more beautiful with the construction of a mini Great Wall trail.

The Tuwachung Mini Great Wall is a wall constructed by combining lime and brick dust with fly stone, said Kamal Giri, spokesperson of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality and ward chairman of Ward No. 7 Mahadevsthan. “Stairs have been constructed using the same material in the uphill and downhill areas. Stones and soil have been mixed in a way that grass can grow in the flat areas,” he said. “A two-meter-wide wall has been constructed on the trail. The under-construction trekking route at the Kirat historical site of Tuwachung-Jayjum has started to become a favorite of domestic and foreign tourists.’

Tuwachung-Jayjum, located at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level, is geographically very attractive. The view of sunrise and sunset is visible from here. On clear days, the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, as well as the high Himalayan ranges to the north, shine like silver. The under-construction mini Great Wall has made this historical and tourist site, where views of the mountains, hills and Terai can be observed, more attractive.

In this historical site, where Tayama and Khiyama weaved a loom, two stone looms can still be seen directly. According to Kirat Mundumi myth, Tayama and Khiyama (sisters) used to weave cloth in Tuwachung-Jayjum. They are considered the pioneers of textile civilization.

A full-length statue of the Kirat ancestral ancestors Raichhakule, Tayama, and Khiyama has already been installed in Tuwachung-Jayjum. A contract was awarded for the construction of a mini Great Wall in Tuwachung-Jayjum, a trekking route to Manjushree Cave, and a Mankhim house in front of Basaha Cave, with an investment of Rs 58.2 million, at the federal government’s expense.

The Tuwachung Mini Great Wall has been constructed along with the construction of the Manjushree trekking route near Halesi, a world-famous tri-religious site. Colonel Samriddhi JV, which has been entrusted with the joint construction, is currently constructing a two-story parking lot (two-wheeled vehicles will be kept on the ground floor and four-wheeled vehicles on the upper floor) at the Tuwachung-Jayjum entrance with an investment of Rs 6 million.

Since Tuwachung-Jayjum is a historical site, cement concrete has not been used in the under-construction Tuwachung Mini Great Wall, informed Halesi Tuwachung Municipality Mayor Bimala Rai. ‘The concept of the Tuwachung Mini Great Wall has been put forward with a plan to attract tourists by making the historical site more organized and attractive,’ he said. ‘In the coming days, the municipality plans to materialize the place where Tayama and Khiyama were weaving looms, place a statue of them weaving looms, and build a park house for tourists to have tea and coffee. There is a plan to provide all the food items available in the kitchens of the Kirat community in that area.’

The municipality has allocated a budget of 3 million for the construction of the statue of Tayama and Khiyama weaving a loom and 2.5 million for the construction of a Kirat cultural house with a garden. Mayor Rai has informed that the statue and the cultural house will be constructed within this year.

A large Sakela Sili is being performed by worshipping three hearths on the occasion of Undhauli and Ubhauli in Tuwachung-Jayjum on the Diktel-Halesi road section of the Mid-Hill Highway. Kirat communities from all districts of Nepal and neighboring countries such as Sikkim, Darjeeling, Bhutan and others visit Tuwachung-Jayjum.

The number of people coming to Tuwachung-Jayjum, which is on the Mandum Trail (trail) among the 100 destinations determined by the government, to study and observe Kirat civilization is also increasing. Since the terrain of Tuwachung-Jayjum, which is crowded with domestic and foreign tourists all year round, is steep, especially during the Sakela dance, the trail has been constructed with stone walls.
